St Martin's & St Paul's
Parish Canterbury

"I believe in God..." This is the first and most fundamental of the statements of faith that Christians repeat Sunday by Sunday in the words of the Nicene Creed. The statements of belief are breathtaking in their claims and in their implications for those who affirm them. Some undoubtedly raise questions and uncertainties that are not easy to resolve.
The Parish of St Martin and St Paul in Canterbury is offering a series of talks and discussions on the basics of the Christian faith, based on the belief statements in the Nicene Creed. The talks and discussions are open to anyone who would like to come to any or all of the sessions. For Christians, the series is designed as a 'refresher' and update for their faith. For people interested in Christianity but not committed to it, this is an opportunity to hear more and raise questions for debate.
The emphasis will be on a straightforward presentation of basic Christian beliefs, reflecting a range of understandings and view-points rather than just one Christian tradition. It will not be a course on academic theology; and it will aim to attempt to draw out some of the practical implications of belief for everyday living. The presentations will be varied in style and method with opportunities for questions and discussion. There will be suggestions for reading and internet sources for people wishing to take subjects further.
The venue will be the Parish Hall in Church Street St Paul's, Canterbury. The series will be divided into two five-session sections. Part One will start on Wednesday 18th November and conclude on 16th December. Part Two will start on Wednesday 24th February 2010 and finish on 24th March. All the sessions will be on Wednesday evenings, starting at 7.30 pm and concluding no later than 9.00 pm. Coffee and tea will be available at the end of each session.
You are warmly invited to come to these talks and discussion, either for the whole series or as many sessions as you wish. There is no charge except for a contribution towards any coffee etc. If you have any queries about the series of talks and discussion please contact Brian Munday (Tel: 01227-765464, email B.R.Munday@kent.ac.uk) We look forward to seeing you.
